Visualize the power of your personal networks! The image at the left is social network analysis of the Abundance League, a San Francisco based group whose intent is to design and build social capital. The map, created by Abundance League member Doris Spielthenner of FAS.research, illustrates the breadth and power of the group's social equity, showing a healthy network with cooperation at the core and opportunity at the periphery. The idea is that everyday interactions and intentional networking can be cashed in as solid and stable social capital. This month UAS is proud to showcase articles by UAS Allies and members of the Abundance League, POWER SF, and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. Remember, social equity is a critical but often overlooked aspect of sustainability. Start investing in and banking on your own social capital today!

While these are often the dramatic loci of action, where the stakes seem highest, and where battles are waged in the public arena, often over long periods, they are not the only places to build power. |
